Perfect Golf Release 1.2.1.6 Hazards Release Planned for March 25, 2015
MARCH 24 - PERFECT PARALLEL

Well here it is. In this release we will be rolling out full hazard management inside Perfect Golf. Gone is the Rehit only option replaced with a full suite of drop options implemented in full accordance with the rules of golf.

That means both regular and lateral water hazards with the option to drop on the other side of the hazard when landing in a lateral hazard.

It also means being able to play the ball as it lies if you are in the hazard but not in the water without a penalty.

Of course rehit remains a viable option for every situation.

Once you hit into a hazard you will have an option to Rehit/Drop in the post shot screen. Selecting this button will place you in Drop Mode. You can cycle through all the drop options to take a look at the lie and position using the left and right arrows on the screen. At each drop the drop button will tell you the type of drop you are taking (Drop, Rehit, Play it as it Lies).

While in a particular drop area you will see the area of valid drop defined by an outline color coordinated to the type of hazard. You can position the ball anywhere inside this area using the aim stick. Just click inside the area anywhere to move the ball to that position.

When you click inside a hazard drop zone the aimstick will show the distance to the pin so you can position your ball at exactly the yardage you are looking for especially when using the drop in line with the pin option.

Finally of course we now have out of bounds areas and the only drop for out of bounds is a rehit.

We believe that this is a fully comprehensive set of drop options that continues our desire to replicate the game of golf as much as possible. Some of the logic to determine the appropriate drop zones has been very complex but worth the effort.

There will undoubtedly be some corner cases that you all encounter while playing that we did not discover during testing so please feel free to report them and tell us about them.

There is one known bug which is if you elect to hit the ball from within a hazard and then hit the ball back into the hazard you will be given the option to rehit when in fact this option would not be available to you in real life.

This release does include a few bug fixes listed below

Improvements to the ball Physics (fixing some issues with last build)
Added in 3 new MOP files which are skins Mops using non progressive skin values. So the skin options with N are basically $100 per hole and the ones with P are progressive skins like todays skins mode.
Added the current hole skins value to the hole information when playing Skins
If you play with the tracer turned on it is now automatially removed when putting
Reduced the variability of the wind in all modes, it still changes as often we just reduced the amount it can chage during any single change
Fixed the Heel and Toe display in Practice Mode inside the Swing meter that was incorrectly reporting values
New Soft Occlusion shaders on the meshes
[*} Updated the sand physics to allow the ball to fall down very steep slopes in the bunkers [*} Upgraded Steam Integration to latest API.
We know some of you will be disappointed about the fact we have not yet addressed the offline play capability. We will be getting to this as soon as we have completed the upgrade to U5 along with other items we know have to be fixed, but we wanted to get this last piece of functionality out to you as
[*} Upgraded Steam Integration to latest API.
We know some of you will be disappointed about the fact we have not yet addressed the offline play capability. We will be getting to this as soon as we have completed the upgrade to U5 along with other items we know have to be fixed, but we wanted to get this last piece of functionality out to you as quickly as possible.

Thanks again for your support

Looks like they came out with some real nice updates to match real golf play.

Any word on progress toward a sim version for the GC2 and such?

Ok, we are almost there. We are hoping to get this out this week. We have 3 things left to finish that are part of the planned U5 upgrade release.

1) Upgrade the Florida Glades Course to Unity 5
2) Fix a nasty bug in the stats reporting
3) Add Hard and Soft ground settings into the physics

Best Guess right now is a couple of days. Here is a complete (mostly) recap of what is in it.

Improved Lighting and upgrading our Time of Day lighting system. The whole lighting and shader system in U5 is much more immersive and flexible so we have completed a revision of all the settings and data related to the Lighting, shaders and materials inside the game. Much more dynamic and vibrant should please the folks who complained that it was lacking in contrast

Tree passthrough collisions with a random sound and effect on the ball in flight. Each collision results in a random dorection and speed change

Integrated the wind into the trees more realistically so now the higher the wind, the more the trees will move. The cloud movement is also tied into the speed and direction of the wind

Integration of complete skid/slip and roll system into our physics engine bouncing. This means that spin rate, vertical velocity and softness all determine whether a ball will skid on impact or whether friction with the surface will scrub all the spin off the ball and it will be rolling on impact with the ground. This leads to the ability to hit a much larger variety of shots with more realistic results.

Move to more simplified firmness setting with Soft Normal and Hard. See Above

New Pitch and Lob shot type options remove the need to continually adjust the loft of the shots manually and help to replicate the fine control that the pros display in this part of the game. In conjunction with the new ball and ground physics this allows us to replicate many of the shots you see on the PGA tour week in and week out such as the low pitch shot that grabs and spins itself out near the hole. As a result we have adjusted the shot center to be for small adjustments only in loft, the old draw and fade setting remain unchanged. The lob shot has an added difficulty to it in that missing the snap early will result in under hitting the shot and late will see it come out lower and faster than intended.

All new putting physics incorporating skid on leaving the putter which again adds to the reality of the putts. We also have fixed the high speed launch issue and have adjust the putting distance control to be more user controlled rather than having the distance to the hole 'preset' on the swingmeter. This will make judgement of diatnce much more difficult and to compensate we have reduced the direction penalty for missing the snap on putts. There is a new camera for putting you can enable in the game settings UI which is lower to the ground and avoids the issue of the player covering the hole.

Added in a handicapping setting into scoring so now you can play net matches against opponents with a defined handicap. Right now this is on an honor system but eventually it will be integrated into the actual scoring of the player. This will happen once we get the Perfect Golf Club website and API up and running.

Added in stat tracking so at the end of each round you can see all the players stats and then have your stats for all your players synced with the cloud. You will also be able to see other players stats if they allow their stats to be shared. Right now there is no UI for this but if you want to see a players stats you will see the response returned in the console. We will update the UI functionality in a later release for historical to date stats but did not want to delay the U5 release further.

Restoring offline mode. We have fully restored the offline mode in the game. This means we have restored our own networking code for offline play. You can now play without being connected to the internet or when steam is off and set to offline mode.

Passworded games and passworded chat. You can now protect online games with passwords as well as chat channels with passwords

Added Horizontal Motion Swing, and tied it into the handedness setting in the player menu, so if you play left handed the swing will be to the left them the right and reverse for right handed players

Improved the hole cup physics. Balls will lip out more realisticly now and the ball if hit too hard will hit the back of the cup and bounce upwards a little. Balls rolling on green will now bounce off the pin if it is in.

A much improved camera system with revamps on the Reverse and Landing Snap cams and well as changes to the follow cam all designed to eliminate the bumping of the camera as the ball bounced

Added an F4 camera which is active when putting and shows the view of the putt from the reverse side of the hole

Made changes to the F3 view which now moves to the landing area of the club currently selected in the swingmeter. While the F3 camera is active you can change clubs to see how the landing area changes. F3 is not available in chip pitch or flop mode.

Added several items to the graphics settings:

- Turn adaptive lighting on or off ( think of it like your pupils of your eyes adapting to shade or sunlight)
- Turn Sky Scattering effect on or off (Makes the sky a more deeper color)
- Turn God Rays and lens flare on or off or both
- Replaced Tree Billboad Slider with new LOD slider for Trees, Higher Values is Higher Tree Quality. Default is 2
- Added a variable to players to adjust the size of the comet trail to their own liking
- Added a delay to the follow cam catch up time so you can set this to your own liking

Changed Weather Settings Menu:

- Removed Dust and replaced with Variable which has variable cloudiness on a clear day
- Changed Storm mode so there is a 50 50 chance of a storm rolling through every 20 mins so not stormy all the time
- Changed Rain Mode so more of a showers mode.
- Added Active Weather Slider - This will cause gound to soften when it rains for a certain time. Due to time limitations this has not been implemented in this release but will be activated in a later release.

Added a normal map slot to textures resulting in new rake marks in bunkers etc

Bug fixes and Changes

Fixed the OSX Greed Grid bug
Reduced the size of the width of the grid when not on green
Removed the lines depicting the hazards and left just the posts (they were ugly)
Removed the Special characters in the UI that prevented them showing up in certain Operating Systems
Fixed A cancelled shot by not clicking at the bottom reset the shot center
Added in temporary measures to reduce cheating
Fixed a situation where a ball in the hole could be registered as Out of Bounds
Fixed the hole in one bug
Fixed a bug where a mulligan could deduct two shots from a players score
Fixed a range of alt shot bugs
Fixed a range of bugs caused by the gimmie button
Fixed auto gimmie and gimme causing 2 shots to be added

We are sure there are more like the hole in one bug and others but we are finally at a point where we can start to test the gameplay again so have at it and let us know what you can find

So whats next:

We plan to tidy a lot of things up fix bugs in the U5 build and add in the following for the next release:

An all new animation system.
Active Weather which will cause ground conditions to change with the weather

I am sure I missed a bunch of stuff we did out.

Perfect Golf 1.3.0.0 Scheduled for Release June 13th (Saturday)
JUNE 12 - PERFECT PARALLEL

Its been a long wait and we thank you for your patience. We tried very hard to get it released today (Friday) but some last minute issues with some final enhancements prevented us from achieving this.

We need to receive confirmation from our OSX and Linux testers that all is good to go and we will release the new update. The plan is to do this tomorrow. The only thing that could get in the way of this is if those builds do not meet expections at which point we will release the Windows Build on its own until any remaining OSX and Linux issues are resolved.

We thank you all for your patience. A full set of release notes will be published tomorrow along with another list of known issues and bugs.

From Andrew Jones of PP

Many thanks for all your patience while we worked on this upgrade. We hope we can now resume the more regular update scheduleThere

Courses
I am sure most of you will be disappointed with the fact that there are no new courses. We have had to pretty much redo all the courses we had due to the changes in U5. We have made a commitment to get new courses out to you and we are going to get pushing on this now. Our goal is to have two more courses to you by the end of next week, one real course and one fictional

Lighting
Improved Lighting and upgrading our Time of Day lighting system. The whole lighting and shader system in U5 is much more immersive and flexible so we have completed a revision of all the settings and data related to the Lighting, shaders and materials inside the game. Much more dynamic and vibrant should please the folks who complained that it was lacking in contrast
The new trees (more on that later) also take this lighting more effectively adding to the immersion factor.

Upgrade to Speedtree
We have rebuilt our tree library to use SpeedTree which was made available in Unity for the first time in Version 5. What does this mean, well there are a number of new features in addition to the better lighting

Tree passthrough collisions with a random sound and effect on the ball in flight. The ball will be slowed down a random amount and deflected a random amount each time it hits the branches or leaves

The tree movement is now tied in to the wind speed so now the higher the wind, the more the trees will move.

Upgrade to Physics
We have done an Integration of complete skid/slip and roll system into our physics engine bouncing. This means that spin rate, vertical velocity and softness all determine whether a ball will skid on impact or whether friction with the surface will scrub all the spin off the ball and it will be rolling on impact with the ground. This leads to the ability to hit a much larger variety of shots with more realistic results.

We have also significantly improved the putting experience. Gone is the flag on the putting meter and instead we have a full putting meter where the player must determine the strength of putt as well as direction. A full 12 o clock swing will go approximately 70 odd feet and around 30 at the 9 o'clcok. It is scaled slightly exponentially. Below the swing meter is an indicator that says whether you are putting inside or outside 6ft. When inside the swingmeter will move at half pace to make setting short distances much easier and remove the machine gun 3 click effect

We have also fixed the bug that caused the ball to shoot on launching a putt. the ball will accelerate more quickly downhill and slow down quicker uphill and also take more break. Everyone will have to learn how to putt all over a gain.

This will make judgement of distance much more difficult and to compensate we have reduced the direction penalty for missing the snap on putts. There is a new camera for putting you can enable in the game settings UI which is lower to the ground and avoids the issue of the player covering the hole. In addition when near the green you can hit F4 to view the putt from the far side of the hole. Hit F4 again to return to the main camera.
The new bounce physics will also mean people will have to relearn the short game.

Improved the hole cup physics. Balls will lip out more realisticly now and the ball if hit too hard will hit the back of the cup and bounce upwards a little. Balls rolling on green will now bounce off the pin if it is in.

As a result we have adjusted the shot center to be for small adjustments only in loft. With Lob shots the snap penalty has been changed from a directional penalty to more of a Fat Thin penalty. Snap too early and the ball will not go as far, snap too late and the ball will go too far and lower

Game Play and Stats

Added in a handicapping setting into scoring so now you can play net matches against opponents with a defined handicap. Right now this is on an honor system but eventually it will be integrated into the actual scoring of the player. This will happen once we get the Perfect Golf Club website and API up and running.

Added in stat tracking so at the end of each round you can see all the players stats and then have your stats for all your players synced with the cloud. The stats can be viewed during the round by viewing the scorecard and clicking the View Stats button in the top left.

Added a horizontal swing meter, for those who like to swing left to right or right to left. You can choose between the two horizontal motion swings by changing your players handedness in the player menu

Restoring offline mode. We have mostly restored the offline mode in the game. This means we have restored our own networking code for offline play. You can now play without being connected to the internet or when steam is off and set to offline mode.

Online games set up in the lobby can now be protected with a password as can any private chat channels you set up. To add a password just type a passowrd into the password line when setting up an online game. All players attempting to join that game will be asked to provide the password.

Menu Changes

Players Menu:
- Added a handedness which affects the directionality of the horiontal motion swing
- Added a handicap value that is used in calculating a players strokes in a new game

Settings Menu - Graphics:
- Sun Shafts replaced by God Rays and Lens Flare options. Lens Flare will work in all modes, God Rays only work when dynamic Sky is on. If you want lens flares make sure this is set before switching to non dynamic sky
- Turn Sky Scattering effect on or off - When on the skies will be more blue with less haze, when off the sky will have a more blue white haze to it
- Adaptive Lighting. This feature adds an effect to the camera a little like the pupil of the eye which allows it to show more light when in a dark area and less light when brightly lit
- Replaced Tree Billboad Slider with new LOD slider for Trees, Higher Values is Higher Tree Quality

Weather Settings Menu:
- Removed Dust and replaced with Variable which has variable cloudiness on a clear day
- Changed Storm mode so there is a 50 50 chance of a storm rolling through every 20 mins so not stormy all the time
- Changed Rain Mode so more of a showers mode.
- Added Active Weather Slider - This is future functionality and will toggle whether rain causes the ground to soften during game play - For now this button does nothing.

Menu Changes (Continued)

Game Settings Menu:
- Added a UI element for Comet Trail Length. Only available when tracer is set to comet it allows you to change the length of the comet trail to your desired level
- Added a UI element for the Follow Cam Catch Up Time. the higher the time the slower the camera will catch up to the ball during the follow cam. set to 0 for camera to be behind the ball and 8 for a very smooth follow.
- Low Putting Camera. When enabled assuming the player is putting on the green the camera will be lower down to the ground than the standard view the player has selected for normal shots
- Lower Quality on Swing This feature allows you to request that the camera lower its quality settings automatically as soon as you start a swing so that the swing meter will be smooth even if you are on the borderline with FPS for normal play. This defaults to On so if you have a powerful system feel free to turn this off.

PLEASE NOTE: The above is designed to assist those who want to play at higher settings but still have a smooth swingmeter. If you play at low quality this will actually not help you at all and you should turn it off.

Other Items and Bug Fixes

Added a normal map slot to textures resulting in more detailed texturing for things like sand
Reduced the size of the ball marks on the green

Bug fixes:

Fixed the OSX Greed Grid bug
Reduced the size of the width of the grid when not on green
Removed the lines depicting the hazards and left just the posts (the lines were ugly)
Removed the Special characters in the UI that prevented them showing up in certain Operating Systems (Win XP, Linux, Win 10)
Fixed A cancelled shot by not clicking at the bottom reset the shot center
Fixed a situation where a ball in the hole could be registered as Out of Bounds
Fixed the random hole in one bug
Fixed a bug where a player taking a mulligan could accidentally have two shots deducted from his score
Fixed a bug where a player would be left out of a hole in Alternate Shot
Fixed a bug where a players ball would remain showing from whence it was hit during alt shot
Fixed a bug where a players ball would not be marked correctly when on green or both players in alt shot would have their balls marked.

There are a number of known issues with this release
Fog does not work on the OSX standalone builds. Please avoid playing in fog on the Mac and Linux builds for now. We will post a fix as soon as we have one

The wind and the cloud movements still do not tie in as desired
In a few corner cases the various new camera systems do not work as desired and occasionally the camera will go below ground

We have not had time to build a new set of Physics Properties for Soft and Hard so for now they play the same as Medium

Viewing other players stats not supported yet nor is viewing career to date stats although these are being tracked. You will see the future functionality if you right click on a player in chat and select View Stats.

The offline mode while working has a number of camera bugs we have not yet got to. We will be addressing these ASAP, typically it results in the camera looking down at the ball rather than down the fairway. Reaiming will usually resolve this issue for now

There is a possibility that players who host games who have a slow PC will cause their playing competitors to get booted from the game as they load before the host is ready. This has only occured to us in development mode and not in release mode but if you see this behavious please report it. As a rule of thumb the guy with the best PC and internet connection should always host.

Very occasionally a ball impacting a pin slowly will rise up the pin rather than bouncing off it.

To one and all here at OGT.

The v1.3.0.0 update is now available.

Just wondering with the changes in gameplay with regards to putting and new shot types available, how might the current events be affected? Also, handicaps can be used in the game, which might help with the screenshots of scorecards.

For anyone having 72% issues please check your courses folder to ensure you dont still have the courses from the earlier linux patch we pushed. If there are L in the course names at the end please delete your courses then validate your installs to get the correct courses.

Perfect Golf 1.3.4.0 Released
Community Announcements - Perfect Parallel
We have released this to Steam. Please note the warning below.

**WARNING** Users of this patch once downloaded will not be able to connect online with players still using the 1.3.3 Release

Changes to Putting
While this release does not represent our final changes to the putting we wanted to get these changes to you. We have always talked about options and have read all of the feedback. Without making big changes to the putting for now we hope this release will resolve some of the immediate concerns about the putting

We have added a new mouse sensitivity setting to the game settings entitled Short Game Sensitivity. The purpose of this is to allow motion swing users the ability to have less sensitivity of mouse movement when executing short shots or shots that do not need much power. In conjunction with the Motion Swing Power Bug Fix (see below) we hope this makes putting in motion swing an improved experience
Added a new aid to the player settings menu to enable or disable simplified putting. When simplified putting is enabled the player will see the old pre 1.3 version of the putting meter with a flag to indicate the strength of the putt required to get the ball to the hole( just beyond) on a flat green with no wind. We hope this gives people the option to play their game and enjoy it whichever swing method people use.
Added an indiator to the multiplayer connection screen showing whether the putting aid is on or off
Extended the slow putting meter to 10 feet from its current 6 feet. We hope this will provide the click players with an improved putting experience.
Fixed some errors in the naming convention of the putting types while in game

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Here is a list of the changes in 1.3.4 and bug fixes
Fixed a bug in Motion Swing where the pointer would come back down slightly on the downswing resulting in the player not getting the power setting they were looking for or intended
Added light to top view during darker playing hours to make it easier to make out the different golf course areas
Made some changes to stop follow cam and reverse camera from going underground
Fixes for people experiencing transparancy in some textures or shadows
Fixed bug where sometimes the camera would position itself in a place where you could not see the golfer
Added Club Carry distances to the club selection screen in the Player Settings Menu
Undertook some prep wrok to allow Swing meter to be moved on Screen. This functionality will become fully functional in a future release
Made some modifications to Driver off the fairway with the goal being to hit it slightly further than the 3W but with a much lower ball flight and longer roll.
Set Scorecard so it opens on the nine you are actually playing.
Made some fixes to eliminate the ball that carrys 10 yards and travels 300
Fixes to Willow Heath
Fixes to bulkheads on Shadowlands

We hope everyone enjoys the improvements.

Andrew Jones wrote:I wanted to inform you all that we are nearing the end of the tunnel that has been the 1.3.9.0 upgrade. I hope you all feel it will have been worth the wait.

Course Updates
New Florida Glades
New Massachusetts
New Illinios
New Willow Heath
New Shadowlands
New Southampton Links
New Club Schwarzwald
In addition to these improvements to existing courses, the raft of user courses that have been made during the Course Forge beta period will soon be available for download from a couple of community sites set up to facilitate everyone getting access to these courses. We appreciate the involvement of the community and remain committed to making this game a community driven game.

The New Animation System
All new Full shot, Splash shot, Lob Shot, Pitch Shot, Chip Shot, Short, Medium and Long Putt animations
All new Pre Shot Waggles
All new Player Character Customisation Configurator under Player Settings Clothing. No longer are shirt colors tied to teams, now you can customise your golfer the way you want him to look.
Animation will now conform to the terrain unless of course the shot is impossible to conform to..
All sounds, effects and ball launch are now timed to the key animation frame in the swing meaning there should be no out of sync on these elements
All new 3W, 5W, 7W and Hybrid clubs to go with the Driver, Long Iron, Medium Iron and Wedge
The new animation system necessitated some changes to our camera system which we have made. While the goal was to get it back to the way it was we made a few minor improvements along the way too

The New Equipment Customisation System

All new equipment configurator under Player Settings Clubs now provides for customisation of the clubs including new club sets as they are released, new shafts and new grips. Each club grouping can be customised individually. the club groupings are Driver, Woods, Hybrids, Irons, Wedges and Putter
We will be releasing different shafts and clubs in the future some of which will be vanity and some of which will have different characteristics.

Before we introduce the next component of this let us reiterate that you will not be able to nor will we charge our players costs to be able to buy skill levels. Having said that not everyone plays golf with forged blades nor do they all use graphite shafts. So we will be introducing new shaft, and equipement that will have different characteristics. We all know that forged clubs give you more control but are harder to hit and have a smaller sweet spot. The large headed drivers give you a little more forgiveness off the tee but might not be as long and so on. So our equipement will allow you to set up your players to play the game you want to play. For every element that is a gain there will be a corresponding loss, but you will be able to trade things like distance for accuracy, change loft on your clubs and change the spin chacteristics. It will be a while before new clubs and shafts are available as we will have to test them thoroughly first to make sure one club or shaft does not provide an inadequate weighting to the game.

The New Real Time Swings

Real Time Mouse Swing and Real Time Mouse Swing Horizontal. Once in the game you will see a new UI replacing the Swing Meter. This allows you to select your clubs and shot shape. Once happy with your shot right click on the mouse (Once you start to move the mouse the swing button will go red indicating the timer has started and then move your mouse like in Motion Swing before. Judge your distance based on how far the club moves back on the backswing. Controls work just like Vertical Motion and include the same Tempo driven swing. To overswing with the RTS Mouse swing keep pulling the mouse as you reach the top.

Real Time Controller Swing... Select in the device and then press A to trigger the swing, the swing icon will go red. Use the Stick to move the club back and forth and push forward quickly to initiate a swing. To overswing in RTS Controller you need to keep the button pulled back. You will feel a tension as the club slowly moves further at the top and generates overswing.

Both of these new swing types have help screens available in the help section of the UI (see below new feature)
Other New Features
We are pleased to announce a whole range of new features in the game with this release:
All New Free Camera - We have added a new Free Camera Mode. It is now a 3 way toggle.
Press F5 once and you enter Free Camera Mode and can fly around just as before.
Press F5 a second time and you are now frozen in place and can take your swing from here. If you choose to do so then you will forgo your regular camera and get the spectator camera instead.
Press F5 a third time and you are returned to your original position behind the player based on your default camera selection

Atmospheric improvemetns.

1) We have added brids and other flying insects on to many of the courses as part of the upgrade. These birds also create a shadows too.
2) We have added divots that are created when you swing and fly off in front of you after impact.
3) We have added ball marks on the greens assuming a certain speed of the ball on contact
4) Tee shots are now played from a tee and that tee will change in height based on your club selection. In addition the tee will fly in the air on contact with the club ( You wont see it if you use follow cam)

We have also added Custom Flags to PG so now courses with custom flags will show their flags. Not all courses will have custom flags yet of course but these are set inside Course Forge

Added a new UI for Simulators with a Putt Out Button a normal and putting toggle button and an arm device button

For all Mouse Swings we enabled the mouse scrollwheel to change the clubs up and down

We have made all replays work across the network so now when you play a replay online all the other players will see the replay

We have added a new Help page under Settings -> Help. These screens provide a wealth of information on how to play the game and will be consistenly added to as we create more.

We have added a number of integrations into the game which will be available based on the manufacturers decision to release and pricing. So far we have completed SkyTrak, Trackman3, Trackman4, Our own Generic TCP IP plugin with several more coming soon. For now only the Simulator option (Our Generic TCP IP will show in your user choices.)

Finally we have added some code to prevent people who dont have a course file from joining an online game that uses that course file.
